PREPOSITIONS

USE OF PREPOSITIONS

Prepositions can perform different functions:

- Serve as a link between two words or different elements in the sentence:

  • I'll see you at five o'clock / Te veré a las cinco

- They can accompany a verb serving as a link to its complement. In this case, they can not alter the meaning of the verb or alter it with what constitutes a different word

  • To look / Mirar (no altera el significado del verbo)
  • To look after / Cuidar de (se altera el significado del verbo)

- When we put a verb after a preposition, in English the form 'ing' is normally used and not the infinitive.

  • You shouldn’t go to India without visiting the Taj Mahal.
No deberías ir a la India sin visitar el Taj Mahal.
  • I’m interested in studying psychology. / Estoy interesado en estudiar psicología.

a.) With the relative pronoun, when it is followed by a preposition, it can be placed in the final position.
